How the Calculator Works
For each day, enter your clock-in time, clock-out time, and any lunch or break duration. The calculator subtracts break time from the raw shift length to produce net hours worked.
Daily hours = Clock-out − Clock-in − Lunch − Breaks
Weekly total = Sum of all daily hours
If you enter an hourly rate, gross pay is calculated using your weekly total. Hours over 40 are flagged as overtime.
Worked Example
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch each day:
- Daily hours: 9h shift − 0.5h lunch = 8.5 hours
- Weekly total: 8.5 × 5 = 42.5 hours
At $20/hr with federal FLSA overtime:
- Regular pay: 40h × $20 = $800.00
- Overtime pay: 2.5h × $30 = $75.00
- Gross weekly pay: $875.00
Overtime
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees earn 1.5× their regular rate for hours beyond 40 in a single workweek. Assumptions
Overtime is calculated using the FLSA federal standard of 40 hours per workweek. State-specific overtime rules (daily thresholds, alternative workweek schedules) are not applied automatically. This tool is for estimation purposes — it is not legal or payroll advice.
